Brazil faces a concerning dengue epidemic, with over 500 thousand cases registered by February 12, 2024, representing a significant increase compared to the same period of the previous year. The numbers have nearly quadrupled compared to 2023, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The most affected states include the Federal District, Minas Gerais, Acre, Paraná, Goiás, Espírito Santo, and Rio de Janeiro, where the infestation rates of the transmitting mosquito, the Aedes aegypti, are higher.
Given this scenario, it is urgent to intensify measures for disease prevention and control. Actions such as raising public awareness, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, and investing in public health policies are essential to halt the advancement of this illness and save lives. Combatting dengue requires joint and continuous efforts from all of society.
